Hit or Miss? CANNES DEBUT Sirena Yachts 88
Let’s just get it over with. For the money, about $5.5MM in Europe, I’d wait to see how this yacht changes in a year. There are a lot of things it does really well, and others, for this price, that are just unacceptable.
This boat unquestionably looks great. Now, there are those that might argue the point. But, come on, I can see Austin Powers on the flybridge planning a “Shagadelic” party.
The flybridge deck with jacuzzi is a great entertaining space. The foredeck with small pool and master glass roof just aren’t seen on a boat this size – or many others by the way.
The salon and aft deck are well-done, along with the master – but nothing as out-of-the-box as the foredeck. That really sets you up for high expectations.
The specs claims 2100 – 3100 NM range at 9 knots. First, who wants to go 9 knots in a boat like this? A boat like this is great for cruising the Med or Bahamas. If you want serious range get an expedition yacht. Why?
Well, glad you asked. For extended cruising there are a few problems with this boat. First, the crew quarters are bad. Never mind there isn’t even a single proper bath, this isn’t designed as an owner/operator boat – so you’ll most likely want crew.
What else? This boat is too small for 10 people. There isn’t enough room for a chef. And if the owner were cooking, the galley is completely disconnected from the guests.
From the photos, there doesn’t seem to be a hydraulic swim platform. And what there is, is pretty small at that. Add to that there’s no iteration of a ‘beach club’ at all.
Finally, the bow guest has a split head. I don’t understand that on a vessel of this price and class.
Now this doesn’t even consider seaworthiness and mechanics. I imagine given Sirena they will be good. But if you are looking in this class, Sirena faces heavy competition. Two competitors that come to mind are the Hatteras Panacera and the new Princess Y85. If you can write a check for something like this – visit Cannes or FLIBs to check everything in the category.
